A's vs Cubs

06/25/08

By Sid Hartman

A's get hot with 2nd straight win, edge Cub's 6-1

Another typical A's game.  Good pitching, great defense and one big inning to get the win.  The Cubs were tough and shut down the A's for 2 innings but the A's exploded for 4 runs in the 3rd with big hits by Jack B, Coco, Josh and Aditya.  The A's added 2 more in the 4th with big hits by Nick, Riley and Brad.  The A's got great pitching efforts from Alex, Coco, Riley, Jack H and Jack B and only allowed one run.  I am getting too old for this business but I still write better than my son, he should stick with radio.

Coach's Notes

5/21/08

We just played our third game of the year, are we having fun yet?  Our team is off to a great start!  As coaches we can already see dramatic improvement since we started the season only 3 weeks ago.  The kids are really into it and working hard in practice to improve.  I know they are playing catch and working on their skills at home too because we can see improvement between practices.  It is already paying off for them as they have been able to make some great plays in the field and are hitting the ball extremely well for so early in the season.

Going forward we will continue to focus on fundamentals (grounders, fly balls, throwing, backups, cutoffs, etc), game situations (where to go with the ball given the situation) and yes, pitching! All of these things can easily be practiced at home alone or with one other person for those who have the interest and desire to get better.  Additionally we will always stress working hard, hustle, teamwork, positive attitude, learning all positions, good sportsmanship and having fun along the way.

It has been a great start to the season, we have a GREAT group of kids and  I am really looking forward to seeing the team progress throughout the season.  Thanks so much for all the support from all the parents, coaches, stats dept, team manager, webmaster and weekly snack masters!
