In the Spring of 2018 the 13 - 15 year old Senior House Leagues were renamed to honor one of the founding members of OMGAA, Donald Mehus, who passed away on February 15, 2018.
Don was born in Fargo/Moorhead in November of 1929 and was raised on the family farm in Leonard, ND. He went to school typically on his horse Ned. He played baseball, basketball and track (ran the 440-yard dash). He went to college at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he studied electronics. He married Charlotte Christensen (Doran, MN) in 1951, and lived in Fargo/Moorhead for a short time. He moved to White Bear Lake in 1957, as he changed careers to life insurance (Mehus & Associates). In White Bear Lake he was deeply involved in youth sports (baseball and basketball), scouting (Pack Leader), church and taught Dale Carnegie courses. Don and Char had two boys, and two girls, and they too were involved in sports and community programs. His desire to move back to the country hit him in 1970, and he moved to 5 acres in Maple Grove (when Maple Grove was “country”), where he not only took up hobby farming, but jumped back in to the youth sports programs, OMGAA. He continued his civic, scouting, community and youth sports involvement well after his children had grown and left the programs. He was totally committed to the future of young people and he always knew and greeted his children’s friends.
Welcome to the 2023 baseball season!
Here are some important dates and information for the Sr. House Leagues, which are organized into two age groups: 13U and 14-15U.
More information coming soon. Please contact Jeff Ruhr with any questions at jruhr@omgaa.org.
In this year's registration form, you will once again have the ability to make a friend request. Please understand that we will do our best through the draft process to accommodate a family's request; however, requests are not a guarantee. Our goal is to ensure all kids have a fun and enjoyable experience, so we advise our coaches to draft balanced teams. We do allow coaches to choose their assistants and to draft the team as they see fit. In addition, we allow coaches to trade players prior to the end of the draft.
If you have a strong interest in your athlete playing with a particular friend or coach, please reach out to the coach to communicate your interest or volunteer to be an assistant coach prior to the draft.
Due to the complexity involved in drafting teams, and the impact player transfers can have on multiple players and teams, friend requests will not be granted after teams are drafted.
The 13 and 14/15U teams will be registered in the MYAS North Star League and will be following the rules and bat standards of that league. Both leagues allow USA and USSSA stamped bats with the 13U league allowing a -10 differential and the 14/15 league a -5. Please refer to the link below for the complete standards.
Evaluations will be held on April 10th at the Maple Grove Dome.
13U: 6:15pm - 7:45pm
14/15U: 8:15pm - 9:45pm
